we have a roller!?

jack has officially rolled over from back to tummy! it happened last night and i caught the 3rd or 4th roll on video:)

oh the joys of being a 1st time mom...

so jack's sleeping habits continue to get weirder. last night he didn't go to bed until 10:30 and proceeded to wake up at 11:30, 1am, 2:30am, 3:50am, 6am & 7am for the day. finally at the 3:50 am feeding i had mike give him a bottle because i knew he could not possibly be hungry again and sure enough he only ate about 2.5 ounces!?

so convinced that something must be wrong with him, we went to see the dr. today. wouldn't you know that he is perfectly healthy and not a thing is wrong with him(i'm sure the dr. thinks i'm nuts?!). i am however feeding him too often and need to work on cutting his feeding from 8-10/day to 6...gradually of course. man...i thought for sure the dr. was going to tell me such and such was wrong with him and it would explain everything! basically the dr. told me he probably just wants to see me...well great its not as if he doesn't see me ALL day long!?

anyways, i know i've been threatening him for a month now that sleep training was in his future, but this time i'm serious...i'm way too sleep deprived to mess around?!

jack has been going to bed around 7:30-8pm for the past four nights, and with minimal crying or protest. i'm actually afraid to say it out loud!? unfortunately, he has been waking 3-4 times each of these nights as well, almost every 2 hours!? i feel like i have a newborn again. with that being said, he had his first breakfast this morning--i'm hoping if i fill him up he'll wake less. we had some oatmeal, and he was a lot more calm while eating in the morning as opposed to in the evening! of course, he ate all of it:) i'm pretty sure this kid has yet to turn down a meal!!

finally, i think the waking has a lot to do with the "4 month wakeful period," which occurs because they have become so interested in the world around them that they're highly distracted while they eat during the day and then try to make up for it during the night. it also means that when they learn a new thing they like to practice it over and over again. i can attest to this
because his newest "thing" is blowing raspberries--thanks uncle greg for showing him how?!--and the other night he was up from 3:30-4:30 to eat and then "practice" his raspberries. he was just in the crib babbling and blowing raspberries for at least a 1/2 hour?! i'll catch this on video because it's pretty funny!

let's hope that when he turns 5 months in 2 weeks the wakefullness magically disappears-ha!?

rain, rain go away...

ugh!? this will be day 3 that jack and i have been stuck inside, between the bitter cold and now torrential rain there's really no reason to take him outside:(that being said, i've taken lots of random pics of jack!

he still continues to put his hand through the leg hole of his jumper, but he can get it out because i've seen him do it! this is his "what are you lookin at" face!!

he is trying to roll over, but this is as far as he can get!

he now officially grabs his feet and puts them in his mouth, this is after about a month of grunting and trying to reach them!! i have yet to catch this on camera though, so that's my next goal. he has also really found his voice-long gone are the days of the cute cooing, he now yells and basically screams when he wants something or doesn't want to be wherever you've put him. i'll have to get this on video, talk about a temperamental child;)

valentine's day came early...

i just had a knock at my door not too long ago and this was what i received! they're from mike & jack...i think mike knew i needed these as i am so stressed from jack's lack of sleeping lately:) they made my day...thanks guys!

jack has really taken to his jumper...i had to catch him this morning because for the first time he was really jumping! as you can see mike was trying to egg him on;) excuse my voice in the background...i was on the phone at the same time--nothing like multi-tasking on a sunday morning!?



and last, but not least i believe jack knew we were going to let him cry a bit last night at bedtime, because wouldn't you know it the little bugger decided to go to bed at 6:30pm!? he woke up at 9:30, 2:15 & 6am to eat and went back to sleep without a fuss all 3 times!? i have to say mike and i had no idea what to do with ourselves...we had dinner uninterrupted and we even watched a movie in its entirety.

4th month stats & rock bottom!?

so the poor little guy had his 4 month check up yesterday which involved 2 of the 3 shots he was supposed to get. they were out of the HIB so we have to go back--ugh. i feel so badly because every time he gets them he has no idea they're coming...he's happy and smiling and then the nurse sticks him and he lets out the most horrible wail:(

on a happy note, he is perfectly healthy weighing in at 15 pounds 9 ounces & 25 inches long. both his height & weight put him in between the 25th & 50th percentiles which i'm astonished that more than 50% of the kids out there are bigger than him at this age--he seems so big to me!

we also got the go ahead to try oatmeal & barley, as well as bananas & apples. i think we'll take it slow since ideally i'd like to hold off on all other solids until 6 months. however, the oatmeal & barley might be helpful for him since the rice seems to be quite binding!

and now a bit more about rock bottom...the dr. told me i need to let j cry for at least 30 minutes...he said he's too smart and will never learn to fall asleep on his own otherwise. he said if it works you can thank him, and if it doesn't you can blame him--ha! well, i wasn't about to do that last night after his shots, but jack was in rare form...showing no signs of letting me put him to sleep at 9:30pm and i thought i would lose it because he was not even happy and awake, but more so just crabby. so here's the rock bottom part....mike and i literally put j in his car seat and got into the car...we drove around bronxville and within 5 minutes he was out cold, not even a cry from the back seat?! of course mike looked at me and said that this could become a very expensive habit with the way gas prices are, but i was just excited to have him asleep!? needless to say he slept until 2:15 am, ate and went back to bed until 5:30 am, ate and went back to sleep until 9:30 am! now i know his shots played apart in his sleeping longevity, but i'll take it:)

our sabbatical...

sorry it has taken me so long to update j's blog...we were home for a couple days and i guess i've been a bit preoccupied.

jack has his 4 month appointment this morning, so i'll post his stats later on. stay tuned!?

he's really found his voice...in fact, he has become a bit too vocal. he has started to throw a tantrum and yell when he's not happy! he just keeps getting bigger, and i'm so excited for his next stage, but i'm sad at the same time because it means he's not a little guy anymore.

we're still not sleeping so well. to put it in perspective, mike and i went in to get him back down at least 5 times aside from his 3 times to eat between 8 pm & 8:30 am. man this kid really fights sleep! so of course i'm on my 4th sleep book, and i'll be talking with the dr. this morning...maybe he has the key to our success!? all i know is that i'm exhausted from shushing & patting...

anyways, here are some pics...they really don't coincide with anything in particular. the bath ones are amazing to me because 2 months ago we took a similar shot and the towel was so huge on him and now he totally fills it out!?
