we've got teeth!

oh yes, not one, but two! boy do i feel badly though, the poor kid woke up at 5am this morning and would not go back to bed. i thought he was trying to get us to bring him into our bed, but i think it might have been because he was uncomfortable--poor thing:( talk about a rookie mistake...i read all about teething, but he really hasn't shown any other signs other than drooling and gnawing on everything--he's been doing that for months!? i thought i saw 2 red bumps on his lower gum, but he wouldn't really let me look at it so i stuck my finger along his gum and wouldn't you know part of one has already broken through! its no wonder he's been doing this weird tongue thing the last couple days...


i love this one, he looks like he's just been caught!

ahhh...the 5am wake up call!?

while i am so proud of each developmental milestone jack reaches, i could really do without the interruption in his sleep habits that they cause!? that being said his newest milestone; a.k.a. the babble is quite cute! for weeks now he would stare intently at mike and i when we spoke to him, you could just tell he was trying to figure out how to say something back! i have yet to get it on video, but i definitely will. as of right now he's just babbling consonants; mostly "b" sounds.

since i have no real pictures to tie in with the post, i'll just throw in some random cute ones:)

i think the swing is on its way out since jack pretty much just pulls himself up on the toy bar, it'll be no time before he's catapulted himself out altogether!

so in honor of easter, jack had carrots (a fave of the easter bunny) for the first time. he loves them!

i love this look...he looks like he's so mad we're taking his picture while he's trying to eat!

jack also died eggs for the first time...both mine and his hands ended up a bit discolored from dye, and he didn't quite get the concept, but we had fun nonetheless!

and while this outfit is reminiscent of ralphie's pink bunny outfit on "A Christmas Story," i couldn't resist...it was too cute!

jack's not shy...

as you can see from the below picture, jack certainly isn't modest!? i think this is the only time in one's life where chub and rolls are actually cute! as you can see he's ready for swimsuit season;)
he is very rarely in just his diaper, but now that he eats veggies with dinner he basically needs to be hosed down afterwards. i'm thinking of getting him a hazmat suit!?

jack loves to drink out of my water glass. it has gotten to the point that i try not to drink in front of him because he looks at me longingly and it makes me feel bad!? ironically he drinks from a glass really well! so i've been giving him a sippy cup to play with and see if he gets the hang of it...he "gets" it but only if i tip the cup, once i let go he just chews on the top. he'll get it eventually....

well, homemade barley was a bust?! i apparently didn't grind it fine enough and it was too lumpy to feed it to jack. not to worry it didn't go to waste, mike ate it! so in keeping with today's theme of all things green, we tried peas instead. i think green beer would have been slightly inappropriate;) he really seemed to like them!

my little hood rat...

jack finally figured out that he can jump in his jumperoo!? it took a little time for his feet to reach the ground (he has his father's short legs;), but once they did the jumping began! oh and thankfully the music does not need to be on at all times! this video will explain the title:)



we also tried apples this week...i had been holding off on the fruits because i've read they're more likely not to eat the veggies, but he really didn't seem to love them more than anything else he has tried. i think he just likes food in general! excuse his "i just woke up daze," he had just gotten up from one of his patented 1/2 hour naps?!
we're going to give barley a try today. i've had the hardest time finding organic barley for babies so i'm making my own--stay tuned...

the fake cough...

jack has mastered the fake cough, and let me just say that he does it quite well?! if i don't give him my full attention, enter in the fake cough...

that mean old vacuum...

jack has recently become easily startled by noises. for the first time today he cried when i turned on the vacuum!? i knew it was about this age when it would happen, but i had tried to preempt this by always using the vacuum in front of him. alas, it didn't work and i ended up having to swiffer and hold him at the same time! hoping this is a short phase because it will seriously hinder my neurotic cleaning habits:)

as you can see from this face i was unable to convince him the vacuum wasn't scary...poor guy! i have no idea how he mastered the bottom lip?!

i took jack to the playground behind our building today, and we tried out the swings! it was such a nice day, i couldn't resist. i don't think he's quite sure what to think of them, but i have a feeling come springtime we'll spend many afternoons swinging away!



we also finally got jack a rug for his room...with all this rolling around we needed a nice soft place to play!

i can't believe jack is 5 months already!? time really does fly. he never ceases to amaze me each day. he pretty much smiles all the time, and that never gets old!

Sweet potatoes anyone?

So today Kristin invited me (Mike) to guest blog - it's been an week of firsts for Jack, and mommy is definitely pooped and deserves a break! We seem to have an active little log-roller as of late, as Jack has mastered both the stomach-to-back and back-to-stomach maneuvers. It is cute, but he requires a little more attention than before.

Besides becoming somewhat mobile, we also implemented the modified-Ferber, or Dr. Garson (Jack's pediatrician) sleep method. While letting him "cry it out" is difficult, it bore some sweet fruit last night, as Jack slept for a combined 12 hours with only one waking (at 3am) to nurse; that included eight straight hours, a major accomplishment in our book!

Finally, to wrap up the weekend, we just gave him pureed sweet potatoes for the first time this evening -- you can view it here:
