what a week!?

so i have been m.i.a. due to my poor little guy being really, really sick. it was his first real virus, and it was horrible. it started wednesday afternoon, he went from totally fine to a 102 fever, and then escalated from there. his fever kept rising, and hit 103.6 around 5am thursday morning. it was really scary, he was completely not himself. he only wanted to be held and nursed. we went to the doctor thursday afternoon, and he had blood work and urinalysis just to rule everything out. it was awful to see him so upset and just so lethargic. thankfully, his blood work showed that it was in fact viral and we would just wait-it-out. turns out he has roseola, and he's on the tail end of it. we're just waiting for the rash to subside.

on a happy note, his lead and iron came back fine!

so as you can see we were all a bit preoccupied this week. i'm just so relieved he is feeling better. he's still not really into food, shocking--i know, but i'm sure this will be a short lived phase.

thankfully he caught this the week before we leave for the beach because there's nothing worse than being sick while on vacation!

oh and i didn't seem to take any pics this week either--eeks!? i promise to make up for it this week!!

hmmm...

i wish i had something wickedly interesting to report, but aside from teething, crawling, and pulling up on just about everything. there isn't much going on here in bronxville! i will say that with jack's new found skills comes some bumps and bruises. his poor little knees have bruises on them from crawling. i'd get him knee pads if i thought mike wouldn't kill me for doing so;)

as i suspected, since he has mastered these new skills, he has now started to focus on his verbal skills. there's a lot of new sounds coming out of his mouth these days, but no actual words to report as of yet. still patiently waiting to here the word mama:)

jack's love of water...

seriously, this kid loves water! here are some fun pics from last night's bath. you might ask why mike is in the tub with jack, and i can give you a funny answer actually...you see jack had a bit of a red tushy last night, so about 15 minutes prior to bath time i decided to let him go au natural...well during story time, jack decided he needed to tinkle and needless to say dad's lap seemed like the most appropriate place to do so!?

mike taught him to drink the bathwater, which is really quite gross, but we can't get him to stop doing it!

on a more serious note, jack's sleeping or rather trying to get jack to sleep has gotten ridiculously hard. he is at the age where all he wants is me. i could put him down completely asleep, but as soon as his head hits his mattress he freaks out, flips over, sits up and put his arms up for me to pick him up. it is also tough because he can pull up now, so he will do that repeatedly for long periods of time. needless to say we re-ferbered last night and both mike and i were so distraught over the whole experience. he gets so upset when you go in to check on him, and he's just plain mad at you. i think i cried during the whole process. please pray that last night was the worst of it, or i might not be able to follow through with it again tonight.

as not to end on such a somber note, i would like to report that jack continues to eat VERY well! we've tried tofu & lima beans this week, and he really seemed to like the tofu. i rolled cubes in cheerio dust and he was able to feed himself. the lima beans were ok...i think i would've had more luck had they not come at the end of lunch, but we'll give 'em another go! we're almost completely off of purees! go jack!

happy father's day!

jack and i got up early yesterday (or rather jack got up wicked early, so mom had no choice;) to make mike breakfast for his 1st official father's day! we celebrated father's day last year while i was pregnant, but it was more fun this year with jack actually here to participate! we made mike's favorites; western omelete, french toast, bacon, illy coffee & oj. jack also got to try french toast and he ate it in record time! no pictures, but jack and dad were eating their french toast together, and it was soooo cute!

mike had some schoolwork to do unfortunately, so jack and headed out to target for a pool float & beach towels. when we came back we ate lunch & packed up for the pool--we've joined a pool and it might be the smartest thing we've done yet, jack loves the water and it gives us something to do!

mike also finished painting jack's high chair. i think it came out great, and love the brightness of the yellow...jack didn't really have much to say about it this morning other than "faster with the food ma!"



and to update you on jack...well, he is a bit obsessed with his crib soother, and as i type i keep hearing him turn it on and off, on and off...he's recently learned how. he should be napping, but i have a feeling it might take some persistence to get him down this morning. we also awoke to it a couple times this past week, at say 2am, 4am & just about every morning at 6am. he's so excited about it, he's actually waking up at night to play with it--ugh!? hopefully, this will pass as his sleep has regressed terribly with this last bout of teething. as if we haven't had a difficult time as it is with his sleep!?

the remote & computer also work! i'm sure it's only a matter of time before he's crawling all over the place, so for now i'm content to have him stay somewhat still:)

he also got his right eye tooth today, it has just broken the gum. so we'll currently be referring to him as baby dracula!! won't this make for some fun photos;) if only halloween wasn't so far away...

it is so amazing how he grows and changes each day. i really can't keep up with all these milestones. i wish he would slow down a little, doesn't he know that being a grown-up isn't nearly as fun as being a kid!?

crawl, crawl, flop...

that's what jack is up to these days!? he can totally crawl on his hands and knees, but he'll take a couple moves forward and then flop onto his belly to scoot to where he wants to go! he's getting better at it each day, he used to get so frustrated and whine, but now if he sees something he wants he scoots himself to it. this is of course within reason, if it's across the room, forget it--that's just too far and he's lazy, mom will get it;)

he is also into just about everything, and loves to pull everything out of everywhere; the books off the bookshelf, his toys out of his bin. i also think we need to fit him for a helmet, and while it sounds funny to say, he might benefit from one?! he keeps bumping his head because he'll scoot right into wherever it is he's trying to get to, and he has yet to fully understand depth perception!

and of course, his sleep has turned to crap again (for lack of a nicer way to put it). we're in the midst of both teething and separation anxiety. he is a bear to get to bed for both night and naps. i think i have taken to nursing him to sleep for both *gasp*. this will be a fun habit to break!

as you can see, jack's not happy with just one toy, he needs to have all of them out!

sesame place!

we took jack to sesame place today...with the ridiculously hot weather and the pool not being open, we were in need of water!? he was a little young, and truthfully he's never actually seen sesame street, but we had so much fun nonetheless! i think he was shell shocked by all the kids, he kind of just took it all in and chilled in the water for most of the time! we got some fun pics, and finally some of jack and i...mike took some pictures for a change;)

happy 8 months!

wow, time has flown by. i am amazed at how this itty little thing has turned into this little person. he is so much fun and for the most part so happy. he has his moments, but don't we all;) happy 8 months little guy, i love you!

now onto the stats...
height: 29 1/4 inches (75-90%)
weight: 20 pounds (50-75%)

he has gained about 2 pounds & grown over 2 inches in 2 months! i knew he had gotten taller...all of his pants had turned into shmants!!

and for the big news of the day...he has a 3rd tooth! his left eye tooth has finally broken through the gum. now if the other 3 top front teeth would make their way through, we'd all be sleeping a little better:)

and these from the end of the day...he gets more precocious as the day wears on! it took him about 2 seconds to figure out how to open the door, and then forget it when he saw the cord...he is fascinated by cords and strings!?


so i put his toy bin in front of the door to block him, and as you can see it was no match for him. he figured out how to get around it in no time, as well as dump everything onto himself!?

a day in the life...

jack has had a lot of firsts the past week or so...he went in the pool for the first time (albeit a baby pool, but it still counts!), he's tried cherries, he pulled up on his own and he's on all fours (mike and i are on pins & needles--life will certainly change:).

he continues to get more and more animated. a lot more laughs and sounds are coming out of him these days! i have a whole bunch of pictures, most of which are random, but a lot of them catch his personality in action...
