happy halloween!

despite being sick, refusing to say trick or treat and a lack of cooperation from mother nature, jack managed to have a fun halloween:)

jack's classic "cheesy" face!

*disclaimer: this is what happens when a college senior waits until the last minute to find a halloween costume...can you guess what he is?? oh and yes, he does own his own ballet flats;) i'm probably going to have to take this down, so enjoy it while you can!!

my poor little guy...

i know i haven't blogged in a while, but jack has been sick since last weekend. it started out as a cold, and i thought he was feeling better or on the tail end of it mid-week, but he just can't kick it. on top of that, he seems to have gotten a bit worse as it has moved into his chest. we had headed up on wednesday to saratoga and i thought he was ok, but now i'm not sure--ugh. of course the big reason we even headed upstate was so that jack could trick or treat, and now it looks like it is going to rain! anyway, i did manage to get some cute pictures of pumpkin carving...i'll upload and post tomorrow:)

well....

it finally happened!? jack climbed out of his crib during nap today...mike and i were in the living room and we could hear him talking to himself and playing in his crib, and then the next thing we know we hear a certain someone trying to open his door. we both kind of looked at each other in disbelief! i went to open his door and jack proceeds to walk out, cars in hand as if nap time were over!! while he walked out, he looks at us, turns around and points to his room and says "i climbed out of my crib (insert his little laugh)!?" needless to say, explaining to him that that was not cool went over really well...he protested his nap for a bit, did a couple somersaults in bed, but finally fell asleep. we're about ready to put him to bed, so we'll see how bedtime goes--eek! i'm soooo not ready for a big boy bed...

baby brother or a sister....

whenever you ask jack if i'm having a boy or a girl, he inevitably responds with "a baby brother or a sister." not much help considering i'm dying to know what this little one is!? just today i asked him what we should name said brother or sister, and his response was classic..."golf clubs." to which i asked him if he was sure, and he replied with an emphatic "yes!" so there you go, on 12/28 we will welcome a new little one named golf clubs...let's see if that name stirs the pot;)

on another note, i am amazed on a daily basis with his retention. he can literally recite numerous books word for word. he loves to read, and often times he will sit and "read" by himself. he's definitely broadening his range of books he'll read as well, whereas previously we would read the same handful of books over and over again. this is a nice change considering i'm the reader 95% of the time!

and just because this picture cracks me up...

apple picking

we headed back to hurd's orchard yesterday for some apple and pumpkin picking. this was where we had jack's 1st birthday last year, and i am amazed at how much difference one year makes! jack had a lot of fun, all the while enjoying an apple the entire time we picked!

this was how we started the day--mike thought the pjs were deserving of a pic:)

helping daddy pick an apple

enjoying his apple...somehow he ended up with an apple almost as big as his head!?

riding the "cow" train--when they got off mike said he was about ready to fall asleep, it was apparently a smooth ride!

so all day on sunday we were telling him how we were going to pick apples to make a pie. he had no idea what pie was, but must have picked up on the fact that it is yummy and a treat because he kept saying "and now we're going to make apple pie?" here he is enjoying his first bits of apple pie...

i'm pretty sure he liked it;)

when i put jack to bed tonight, we said our prayers, and he asked to say a prayer for his birthday cake! it made me realize that for him, all he needed was a cupcake to make the day feel special. oh to be two again:)

on the eve of your 2nd birthday...

to my little guy,

as i put you to bed tonight, i was reminded of this two year journey we have been on together. it is so hard to believe that 2 years ago today i was in the beginning stages of labor. i remember so vividly the anticipation, excitement and fear that i felt. i had been waiting to meet you for so long that it almost didn't seem real when everything started falling into place. from the first moment i met you i was overcome with love, and it has grown insurmountably since.

you have taught me so much. i have failed and succeeded so many times as a mother in your short life, but somehow you have managed to come out unscathed. your affection, smile, laugh, and determination remind me to put things into perspective, because in the blink of my eye you have grown from a tiny baby into a beautiful little boy.

i love you with all of my heart.

love, mommy

let's get a pumpkin for mommy...

i came home from a dr. appointment to the nicest arrangement of pumpkins & gourds yesterday. mike and jack spent the afternoon together, and while they were out on a walk, jack saw a little boy with a pumpkin. according to mike, jack then proceeded to say "let's get a pumpkin for mommy." not to be too corny, but it doesn't get much cuter than that:)
