happy memorial day!

this was one of the nicest memorial days in a while. the weather was perfect! we didn't have any crazy plans. we were up in saratoga visiting, and took jack to congress park to ride the carousel, make (many) wishes at the fountains, and see the ducks!

here the boys are prior to riding the carousel--as you can see jack was stoked!

tough to get a shot where both of them are looking at the camera

i'm pretty sure jack made enough wishes to go around, so we should all be expecting them to come true any moment now;)

i just love shots of the two of them holding hands...

on another note, jack has become quite the chatty kathy!! while most of what he's saying sounds a tad like jibberish, he is trying to form words more and more. his little voice just makes me smile. couple that with his constant hugs and kisses, and he is just too cute! i hope he always stays warm, kind and loveable--they're qualities that i can only hope he will continue to grow with.

whine, whine, whine...

i feel horrible even writing this, but jack just seems to hit my buttons just right these days!? not to mention my fairly carefree, happy child has become a bit of a whiner. it often makes me second guess my ability as a parent; am i giving him enough attention?, is he trying to tell me something is bothering him?, but alas i actually think it is just a phase. coupled with his new-found need to be held all.the.time. and i could sure use a break:)

in an effort not to make this entire post negative, i will say that his ability to make me smile almost immediately thereafter said whining, is priceless. he is such a loving kid. always giving me hugs and kisses. he really makes it easy to forget that there have been some bumps in the road these days, particularly where sleep is concerned!?

on another note, i don't really talk about the fact that we're still nursing, but much to my surprise we still are. i had my hopes pinned on the easy self-weaning route, but i've come to realization that this probably will not happen. so we have begun the weaning process. i started yesterday with the mid-day session, and it did not go nearly as smoothly as i had hoped. it was actually awful to hear how upset he was. it took me almost an hour and a half to get him down for his nap, and i had to cave and rock him to sleep. i hope that yesterday was the biggest hurdle, but i'm prepared for this to be a struggle.

and just because i'm feeling nostalgic, i leave you with this pic...

he sat up for the first time exactly one year ago today!! i caught him post-nap...you can tell he was a bit surprised;)

fat lip:(

my poor little guy tripped and landed on one of his multiple cars this morning...this resulted in the below picture;
note his right, your left side of the lip...

and i just love this one...not only has he been caught off-guard by the flash, but he's wearing his rain boots just for fun--he loves those things!?

and here is the lovely smile you get whenever you bust out the camera these days!

happy mother's day to me!

i must say that both jack and mike really pulled off a nice mother's day today! although jack woke for the day at 5am, i was granted the freedom to sleep in. mike got jack up and they hung out together, went for a long walk and returned with bagels and starbucks in hand. i actually slept in until 7:30, which might seem early for many, but is like a dream come true for this mom of a super early-riser;)

after a failed nap attempt--clearly jack didn't get the memo that he was supposed to cooperate on my day!?--we headed to the bronx zoo. of course jack fell asleep in the car immediately, forcing us to take the "long"way to the zoo. a bit tricky when you live like 10 minutes away!

to top all of this off, my day was diaper duty and meal prep free!!! all in all a perfect day:)

here are some pics from our day...

i love how the peacocks(or in this case peahens--learned the difference between the male and female from our guide today!) roam about the zoo

this was the best shot of the tiger from the monorail

such an awesome view as we crossed the bronx river

this was actually when we first got on the monorail...he was not so sure he was going to like it!?

if only i could get that toothy smile on cue--this would've been an even better shot!

but i did get it at least once (the toothy smile that is)!!
